Marina served for many years as a leader of her home's naval forces. She began her career early in life and spent almost all of her adult life within the services. She would work her way up to the highest rank of Admiral, and commanded scores of soldiers in her time. She didn't have much social life to speak of, as she spent most of her time training herself, or tending to her responsibilities as an admiral. Coming from a family with deep roots in their country's military services, from a young age it was always the plan for Marina to be where she is. Despite all the stress that comes from the job. Marina simply sought the thrill of battle, and took no greater joy than to be in the thick of combat.
In times of war, Marina gave off an air of strength and confidence to her soldiers and would lead them into battles at the front of the line herself. She thought any leader who was not willing to be at the front of the charge was a coward. In times of peace, Marina would often take a crew out on a small battleship, and roam the seas in search of any pirates looking to disrupt trade routes. At one point however, she was introduced to a young man, who claimed he could best their finest soldier in combat to prove himself worthy of joining their ranks. Marina felt no choice but to happily accept such a challenge, and she engaged in combat with the man who was surprised at the speed, power and agility of this woman. He realized quite quickly just why she was the admiral, as within minutes he was defeated without so much as laying a single scratch upon Marina. She would however, enjoy the fight he put up, and he was offered a spot as a soldier who would receive training specifically from her.
A couple years would pass and the man that challenged Marina, whose name was Kane, would become a masterful Lance user. Under the tutelage of someone with the experience she has, it was already second nature for her to create soldiers out of anyone. But Kane took things the extra mile and would train harder and faster than any soldier she had seen before. From then on he would remain by her side as a loyal guard. Anyone that wanted to try and take her on, would have to go through him first. That is, if Marina didn't feel like fighting, which wasn't very often.
Eventually Marina and Kane would find their ship approached by what appeared to be a pirate's vessel. Marina laughed heartily at the prospect of a ship just turning themselves in. They boarded the ship and only found one soul aboard, a known pirate criminal enforcer for the dreaded Captain Emerald, Citrine the Cannon. Marina then looked at the lone woman and asked. "You're alone?" to which she nodded and gave herself up. Marina laughed at this and told her that she had a way out. She explained that normally she would simply throw someone like Citrine in jail for all the parts she played in the various crimes committed by her captain. However, Marina thought of a better idea, as she had heard recently that a nearby Arena opening up soon was looking for its first round of competitors. "Prove to me you are just as good in battle as you are at robbing and pillaging trading ships! If you are as strong as your reputation claims, I will wipe your record clean. The day then will come when I arrive to meet you in battle, and if you fall by my hand, then your time will be up."
Marina would leave the ship eager to face Citrine in battle. She wasn't much to associate herself with others, but when Marina made eye contact with Citrine on that ship, something within Marina's war hardened heart began to race. Whether that was the thrilling prospect of doing battle or something else was beyond her understanding. Later that day however, Marina would enter her office, and on her desk she found a note addressed to her. It was from the higher ups, and they explained to Marina that she reached a point where she was mandated to retire. The top brass explained that they prefer to keep their ranks on the younger side, despite her years of experience and wisdom and ability. They want for her to be able to live a life of peace in her "veteran golden years". Reading that sentence would make Marina's heart sink, as she felt her whole world crashing down around her. In the silence of her office, she began to cry for the first time in her entire career. Never once had she shown any sign of weakness, even with no one around. But this truly was her worst nightmare come true.
Within a month, Marina's whole life changed. Instead of waking up bright and early and following her strict routine complete with exercising and getting ready for the day, all Marina could do was sleep. She dreaded being awake and not being able to do what she had done for years. She always heard from others that retirement was such a joy to look forward to, yet she felt her entire life's purpose was taken from her. In the middle of a particular day, there was a knock at Marina's door and eventually she awoke from her sleep. She shuffled from her bed to the door and she opened it to find Kane standing there. She had him come in, and he was shocked to see the scene before him. Marina was always known for how tight a ship she ran and kept things clean and orderly. Yet what he saw was an absolute mess of a house, and a woman sitting in it who looked like a shell of the woman he remembered serving under.
To try and bring back the woman who inspired him to become the best version of himself, Kane suggested that the two join the Arena that she mentioned to the pirate some time ago, and that they could register as a team for the upcoming tournament. This intrigued Marina, and the thought of doing battle again after what felt like forever was just the thing she needed. She went straight into her room, tore off her retirement package issued robe, and got fully dressed in her battle gear. Already she could feel life returning to her. As the two would head out to the Arena in short order. Once they arrived, they would register for the tournament under the name, The Twin Pins. They would however not make it very far and ended up eliminated from the tournament. Marina though had no issues with this, as simply doing battle with others once again was more than enough.
Marina would soon catch sight of a familiar face. Approaching her from behind and putting a hand over her mouth, saying "I have been enjoying what I've been seeing. Now I'm going to see more of your skills in person. Since I was the last one you could beat as the King of the Ring...Citrine." Citrine would turn around to see Admiral Marina before her, stating her intent to join her team. "It's Sunny now." She would say, as she extended an arm forward for Marina. Marina smiled and grabbed it as they shook and made their team official, alongside Lynx who could only marvel at the two formidable women before her, the three of them now joined together as The Ranger Corps.
Marina has one harpoon gun on either side of her, and can fire them independently based on line of sight. The Harpoons do 9 damage on contact, and 6 damage upon retracting and reconnecting to the Harpoon Gun. Harpoon tip travel speed and retraction speed have both been slightly increased, with further increases to fire rate, tip speed, and retraction speed during Boss Battles.
One harpoon gun pulls her towards the victim, while the other pulls the victim to Marina. Any harpoon that misses and instead hits a wall, always pulls Marina towards it.
