As a young lad, Gil has always been picked on for his self admittedly ridiculous full name. At a young age he ran away from the very place he called home due to his own parents' seeming lack of interest in him — always treating him as some sort of stranger they barely care for, all the while themselves laughing at the very name they chose for him. It was as if his entire existence was some big joke. So he set off to find somewhere, someplace, some people, that wouldn't be so unkind towards him. During his travels he met someone else who at the time seemed about as lost as he was. Seeing an opportunity to make a real friend, Gil introduced himself, simply as Gil. Despite the introduction, the individual Gil was trying to befriend backed off a bit, questioning how Gil wasn't frightened by their appearance. It was only then that Gil even noticed two large horns protruding from the person's head. With a smile, Gil simply said that didn't matter as long as they could be friends. A kindness neither of them were quite used to, Gil and Buckley would become best friends rather quickly. They would spend several years traveling together and trying to find a place to truly call home. After a while, they decided the best way to find a place to stay would be to get some money, and after finding a flier for the Grand Ball Cup registration, the pair saw no better opportunity. During the registration process, Gil ran into Paul, and after a brief chat, Gil boasted to Paul about how he had no gimmicks just like Arena Veteran Al, who Gil looks up to. Paul was rather annoyed by this boasting and as Gil walked away, Paul decided to flick a little bit of his weapon poison onto the small blade of Gil's Glaive, chuckling to himself as he walked away.
