Buckley was given up by his family shortly after his birth. After seeing two horn-like objects sprouting from the head of the baby, Buckley's parents took this as a bad omen, and that the child would be pure evil. After being passed around from family to family, none quite ever getting accustomed to Buckley's increasingly long horns as he grew, Buckley finally decided enough was enough running away one day never to be seen again by society at large. Too ashamed of the negative attention his horns brought to do much else, Buckley spent years by himself, learning, growing and adapting to the environment around him which just so happened to be a dense forest filled with all kinds of animals. This made him quite resilient and he found that his horns helped him quite a bit to do all sorts of things. This experience allowed Buckley to feel good about himself for the first time in his life.
Buckley would become very knowledgeable on the plants and animals he encountered in the time he spent there. At times, among the creatures of the forest, Buckley somehow felt like he fit in more among them as opposed to the judgemental people of society. He would befriend animals of both the land, air and sea. Gaining a great appreciation for not only life but the land itself that existed in nature. The wild was welcoming, and it made him feel like he belonged. Despite the satisfaction of living amongst nature, there was still a part of Buckley that longed for some kind of connection with another person. He would go weeks without saying a word and end up forgetting the sound of his own voice temporarily.
One day at long last, he finally spotted someone walking towards him, and not wanting to scare them like he did every other person he encountered, he tried hiding his face away, embarrassed to even be seen. But Buckley was shocked to discover an outstretched hand and warm smile on the face of the person before him. They introduced themselves as Gilly, short for Gilhene, and asking Buckley's name in return, all he could say was "You're not scared of me?" After a brief glance upward at his horns, then back down to his eyes, Gilhene said that didn't matter, so long as they could be friends. The two would then spend hours talking to one another, bonding over their shared tumultuous upbringings and longing for something more out of life.
Never knowing this level of kindness, the two quickly became friends and set out together to face the world. After some years travelling together, the two learned of the Arena and its upcoming Grand Ball Cup tournament and decided that it would be the best opportunity to make some money for themselves to find a place to stay that wasn't in the middle of nowhere. The two would make it to the bitter end of their group stage in the Season 3 tournament but would fall short at the finish line to get beyond the first round of the playoffs. The pair was undeterred though, as they found it fun just to be there and experiencing all this, now battling in the Arena and having people cheer them on. It was a great confidence booster for both of them as they struggled mightily with issues of negative self-esteem.
Not long after the tournament's conclusion, Buckley and Gilhene would be talking amongst themselves during team registration when a baseball would suddenly land beside them. Buckley would pick it up and it would smile at them, startling the two of them. "Lady and Gentleman, my name is Ballkind. I couldn't help but notice you two appear to have a fair degree of potent-"
Ballkind was cut off as Buckley got too scared holding the talking ball. Throwing the ball instinctively as quickly as possible. Sending the baseball hurdling away, only to be instantly caught in the mitt of Mick. Who wasn't even looking in the direction Ballkind was coming from. Mick would then walk Ballkind back over to the two. "Let me try this again." He would say.
"I want you two to be part of my team, and I will become your new ma-" Once more Buckley could not help himself. Something about this creature unnerved him greatly and he could not help but reflexively attempt to get it away from himself. As Buckley charged at Ballkind in Mick's glove, the baseball would sigh and open its mouth just as the man with horns would end up charging right into it. The ball somehow consumed the entire man in one swift motion.
Buckley found himself floating in a void like space, around him he could see animals of the forest run past him in every direction. For a moment, Buckley felt very at peace in this, until the running became much more frantic and eventually, they all disappeared. Far in the distance between many trees he was now surrounded by in this void he could barely make out a figure moving towards him. They were tall, and dressed in black, with piercing white eyes and horns atop their own head that looked highly unnatural and like nothing he had ever seen before. He almost felt like the figure was calling out to him, for him to join it. Just as he was about to reach out to it, he blinked and opened his eyes once more to find himself back in the Arena. He could barely remember what just happened when it all came flooding back to him…
Both Buckley and Gilhene suddenly realized they were just meeting with their good old manager Ballkind! He's really great. He was informing them all about how they are going down the Season 4 Boss Gauntlet with Mick as a trio. How awesome it was for this kind manager to allow them to be on a team with such a prestigious former sports celebrity. Now the three are more ready than ever under the guidance of their manager Ballkind.
Buckley sports two identical horns on either side of his head. While idle, the horns do 9 Damage on contact.
Every so often, Buckley will charge himself towards the nearest opponent, spearing them on his horns. After being impaled, he shakes the victim around for 12 total damage over 3 shakes (4 per shake). During Boss Battles, Buckley rushes faster and more accurately with larger horns, inflicting poison and dealing the full impale damage in a single hit rather than shaking.
