Umbra is an individual of unknown origin. Some believe he is just a regular person. Others seem to believe that he is something else entirely. Some even go so far as to say he’s some sort of urban legend, that one day a stray ownerless umbrella was struck by a bolt of lightning, and from beneath it appeared some being clad in blue. Often seen meditating in the rain, covered by his trusty umbrella he always carries with him. There is nothing Umbra loves more than to be surrounded by rain, as it brings a sense of peace unrivaled by anything else. Nobody knows a whole lot about Umbra, as he isn't much for words. If he isn't out in battle, he is typically found standing somewhere nearby in the rain. Most of the officials here are rather confused as to what Umbra's motivations are in being here. He doesn't seem like the type of person to want to really do battle, and is often seen doing things that are the exact opposite. Meditating, resting, and almost always standing around in the rain with his umbrella. He first arrived not long before registration for Season 3's Grand Ball Cup began, and he simply said he was there to partake in the activities here and that he "wouldn't need a room." Like the others have. It was also noted that Umbra never seems to be in any other clothing besides a long blue raincoat and matching hat and boots.
Combatants have often reported that being in Umbra's general vicinity almost produces an unnatural sense of calm within them. Even the angriest individual doesn't spend long feeling that way when Umbra is around. We are unsure if he has some kind of real effect on people's moods or if it's a natural side effect of how he is. Either way, Umbra for this reason is regarded by most around here to be a favorite to be around. Security footage also seems to confirm that almost every night, Umbra will be seen standing atop the building containing the living quarters of the combatants as it rains above him. Our reports indicate that Umbra is indeed lending his calming presence to the fighters as they sleep. With many telling officials in daily screenings that they feel particularly well rested.
One of the combatants most frequently seen around Umbra however is B. Rad, who at the time was another new competitor. One of the more rage filled people in the roster. B. Rad has found great comfort and calmness from his connection to Umbra, and Umbra equally enjoys his presence as well. After any frustrations send B. Rad into a rage, it wouldn't take him long to find Umbra, and stand beside him underneath his umbrella, taking in the calming aura surrounding him. Because of this budding relationship between them, the two decided to team up for the Grand Ball Cup duo tournament. Where they wouldn't make it very far. But the two had a good time together doing it and that's what mattered to them. Eventually though, Umbra would find that over time, B. Rad would be visiting him less and less, and at one point altogether, Umbra wouldn't see or hear from B. Rad again. He isn't sure what happened, but feels quite distressed knowing something is most certainly wrong. He misses him deeply.
It is currently assumed that whenever Umbra has his umbrella opened, rain somehow falls around it no matter what. This has been witnessed first hand in Umbra's battles, as upon closing the umbrella, rain stops falling, and vice versa. We are unsure how this is physically possible. Nothing about Umbra's behavior gives off anything outwardly supernatural, but his abilities are completely unexplained and no medical analysis has delivered any conclusive results as to how his power works.
While out standing in the rain one day, as he considered what team he would be forming for the upcoming Boss Gauntlet, two individuals burst from the ground beside him, one who seemed to be freshly thawing from being frozen, while the other appeared just the opposite, as flames that engulfed them were dying out in the rain. Umbra carefully and gently caught the burning man and had him lay down in the grass. Umbra inferred that as this flaming man came up from below, the fire following him must have melted away the ice that contained the other and their spear they were holding must have got lodged in him as he flew upward to the surface. Eventually the rock and spear holding person began to speak to Umbra. "Where Plok is?" At that point, Umbra knew exactly what to do with this situation and took the two others to the registration desk of the Arena to become the Boss Gauntlet team, Rings, Rain and Rock.
Not the most useful weapon, Umbra's umbrella does 8 damage on its tip only, during the closed phase of the Umbrella.
Every 10 seconds, Umbra will open his umbrella, slowing his fall and temporarily removing the ability to swing his weapon around, instead floating slowly, with the tip damage during this time reduced to 4. The open umbrella can also block attacks, and during this state Umbra takes 50% less damage from incoming attacks.
During the open umbrella state, rain will fall from the sky around Umbra, doing 2 damage to opponents on contact. During Boss Battles, the amount and duration of rainfall is increased.
